Allegra (Fexofenadine)

allegra

Allegra is a drug used to treat allergic rhinitis and hives. The active ingredient is fexofenadine hydrochloride which is formulated in tablets of 30mg, 60mg and 180mg, and orally disintegrating tablets (ODT) each containing 30mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride, as well as an oral suspension that contains 6mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride.

Drug Uses

Here are some of the main uses of Allegra:

  • Allergic Rhinitis: medication is used to treat symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis. It helps alleviate symptoms such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the throat or nose.
  • Chronic Urticaria (Hives): medication is also used to relieve symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria, commonly known as hives. It helps reduce itching and the number of hives.

Allegra works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms when released in response to an allergen.
